Joey Beltdrives’ Bumpy Backspins: F Jam – Adam F – 1996

F Jam – Adam F  – Released 1996, F Jams/Positiva

F Jam is a 1996 single from drum ‘n’ bass producer Adam F featuring vocals by the late MC Conrad.

It was released on the artist’s own F Jams label though enjoyed broader distribution via Positiva, as was Adam F’s debut album Colours which came out the following year.

Let’s Pause For A Second, Let Me Jog Your Conscience…

I’m writing this today because I wanted to do something quickly to pay tribute to the late MC Conrad who passed on April 30th, 2024.

MC Conrad was hands down my fav drum ‘n’ bass MC, someone whose career I’ve been following since the early 90s.

While his peers generally tended towards high-speed chatter that often drowned out the music, Conrad took a more subdued and methodical approach. His style, I felt, always had a depth to it no other dnb MC could match. On some tracks the effect was borderline mystical.

Even those who were staunchly MC-averse would nod knowingly going, “well not Conrad obviously, he’s the man.”

Conrad was the first to “narrate” my early forays into rave culture before leading me forward to new horizons with his long-time collaborator LTJ Bukem.

But my choice of F Jam was an immediate reflex, the reassuringly smooth delivery over jazzy drum ‘n’ bass, encapsulates everything the man represented. It’s captivating, elevating and timeless.

RIP MC Conrad – whatever time of the mornin’ you always kept us ravers jumpin’ and bumpin’.
